I finished school ten years ago, summer 2003. Ten years ago today (May 20) Less Than Jake released the album Anthem. I'm not going to review it or anything, absolutely its an important album to me musically, but its also the reason I pursued a career in the creative industry at all.
ZEITGUISED / NUDENESS
One of the few Zeitguised projects in recent times that I didn't spend a single second working on! Congrats to the guys involved on a weird and wonderful result.
Elements of the past, the present and future of ZEITGUISED styled object mashup.
This was kind of WIP, kind of treatment at some point, that the client
never got to see. Entirely showable in all its raw beauty, because we
also got some new music for it by Michael Fakesch, and gave it a re-edit
touch for this release.
ALKALINE TRIO / I WANNA BE A WARHOL
I recently helped out my good friend Rob Soucy with a couple of shots for the new Alkaline Trio video. My contribution was absolutely minimal, but I doubt Milla Jovovich is going to grace my After Effects interface again any time soon!
So check out the new record, and as always check out Rob's work. One of the most talented friends I have, lots of collaborations planned this year with him.
P+P RESIN SKULLS
I just received another in the series of Paper+Plastick toys. This time my old 3D design has had a makeover by Jonathon Dubose of Texas, in the form of solid poured resin. There are a ton of variations, and they all look delicious (check out more amazing images on his Instagram).
The first round of /20 large skulls in black and white marble sold out almost instantly but keep an eye out for more throughout the year coupled with some special Paper + Plastick record releases.
A few new & original toys are also in the works for later this year!
A Note To Bands
HMV closed in the UK this week, for better or worse, but it doesn't mean people stopped buying music...
LESS THAN JAKE / CONVICTION NOTICE
MAKING OF - MAKE DO AND MEND / TRANSPARENT SEAS
DISCIPLINE SKATEBOARDS / STILL FIGHTING
This is the first of a few new posts about some of the crazy projects I worked on this year. I was always a skateboarder when I was younger so I jumped at the chance to design something for a deck, it was also kind of cathartic for a number of reasons...
TRY THIS AT HOME
Earlier this week I got a pretty rare chance to try something you probably shouldn't try without extensive training. My good friend Pete is a great tattoo artist, he's also crazy and has an entire leg dedicated to doodles tattooed by his friends. Some (especially mine) are technically terrible but he'll always remember how each of them got there, its a great concept! This was his 50th tattoo, so thats pretty cool aswell.
12 hours a day my left hand is hovering over cmd+z, its pretty unnerving and exciting to have that taken away. My already enourmous respect for tattoo artists has grown even more this week.
PAPER + PLASTICK VINYL TOY
Its been a long time in the making but the "Skullface" toy is finally ready and available to buy over at Paper + Plastick. The character started life in some fun idents 12 months ago after a few emails with Vinnie Fiorello, then after a bit of 3D optimising was brought to life as a 7" chunk of vinyl by the talented Julie B and the team at Pretty in Plastic.
67 pieces were made, and with only 60 for sale its a pretty limited affair. Once the matte black version that features in the animations is gone it will never be reproduced!
Its available to buy here (ships from Florida) ...buy some music while you're there!
Also watch this space for a full animated music video for one of my favourite P+P bands I'm currently working on!
